         Now we were to
visit the old Woodend School - the building where Mum actually went to
school, and which is now used by Shipley Community Housing Trust as its
headquarters. Windhill First School has replaced it, and we really
appreciated being asked into a living school and seeing something of how
education works today. I was impressed by the friendly atmosphere and
the encouragement that seems to be going on.

         Mum and Geoff in
the school entrance, John filming. Picture 2 shows the clock tower that
was there in Mum's day and which she was glad to see had been kept.
Below is another view of the building

         We go inside - it
all looks very different today. The Housing Manager, Joanne Whiteley,
comes out to meet us. What a lovely smile, and how welcome she made us
        feel.

         She chatted to Mum and
        then they posed for a
        photograph together. Smile please!

         Look out of this
window, this used to be the playground. Now it is a car park.

         Not much of the
building is on public view, and most of it is unrecognisable anyway. We
are shown the Board Room, which was the old school hall, probably where
Mum's photograph was taken. A plaque commemorates the re-opening of the
school, which was rescued from dereliction in 2005 and officially opened
by an old pupil, who might well have been at the school when Mum was.

         Mum has her picture
taken with her old school photo, and then receives a lovely bunch of
flowers from the Manager - god bless her!
