       | Starting out in the Organic
Garden Wayne and Libby's piece of land has
been uncultivated for many years. This means there is locked-up
fertility in the soil because of all the grasses and natural herbs that
have grown, died and decayed on it over this period of time. A sample
cut into the turf revealed dark rich soil. There were nettles, yarrow
and other natural herbs growing on it, but when these were cut down
there was very good grass. This will remain as paths, beds will be cut
out and then raised as materials become available. |

 | | I have been engaged as their organic
gardening adviser - my 21 years of organic growing, and six years of
freelance journalism for my local paper make me well qualified for the
job. We will begin cutting out the beds this November (2009).

 | | The first job was to walk the land
measuring with the feet then multiplying this up and mapping out.
Consultation was taken as to which part of the land was best to use for
growing. The land has been divided into three areas: 1) camping, living
and cooking area for summer outdoor living; 2) the growing area; 3) the
        children's play area.

         | Read about the Wild
Apples of Kazakhstan, the genetic parents of all the varieties of
apple we know today. These trees in their natural forests are in danger
of dying out because of economic and climate changes. See what can be
        done to save them

      | IMPORTANT! This country is
woefully short of allotments - an online petition has been started
to persuade the government to provide more - please
add your name  -  it only takes a few minutes and could
        benefit  many people  |
